Where does this system accumulate value, where does it leak, and what keeps it coherent?
Intelligence applied at the wrong layer.
People talk about systems all day. Most mean a chart, a process, or a collection of parts, not a Complex Adaptive System.
Events get the meetings. Patterns get the dashboards. Structures and mental models decide what keeps happening.
It is a Complex Adaptive System: people, decisions, capabilities, incentives, information flows, and feedback loops moving together.
Drivers perceive, decide, adapt, learn, hesitate, imitate, break rules, and respond to one another.
Bounded rationality means no decision maker can see, know, or process the whole.
Omit a crucial relationship and you commit attention, money, and action to something less crucial. SIM makes the missing structure discussable.
Where value accumulates.
How coordination happens.
Why behavior repeats.
Engines are not departments. They are living workflows accumulating value.
The weakest engine limits the whole. But one engine becoming disproportionately strong can also pull the system out of shape.
Sustainable growth is synchronized growth. The bottleneck is where value stops compounding, not necessarily where the noise appears.

The systems answer may be more than one box.
Apple's confidentiality has protected integration, surprise, and competitive advantage.
But an AI relationship needs data fluidity, fast feedback, open-ended learning, and probabilistic evaluation. A historic strength can become an internal constraint when the product physics change.

A systems hypothesis from public evidence, not a claim of insider knowledge.
Limits to Growth is the number-one management trap: the architecture that produced historic success encounters a new constraint when the product physics change.
Constraints are not only external. They can sit inside goals, rules, capabilities, governance, or feedback. Pushing the old strength harder does not remove the new constraint.
What would Apple have to redesign so AI can compound inside its system without violating what makes Apple Apple?
The likely leverage: feedback, capability, and coordination loops that preserve privacy and integrated experience.
Your startup. Your employer. Your product. Your personal operating system.
Do not make it perfect. Make it visible.
Is value actually reaching people?
Are the right people finding, trusting, and staying?
Do resources flow toward what is working?
Is capability growing faster than the problem?
Will AI amplify a healthy engine, repair a weak engine, or accelerate a broken pattern?
That one question prevents most AI waste.
Change the system, not just the symptom.
